Between the period 21st – 24th September the Northern Hemisphere celebrates the Autumn Equinox. An Equinox occurs twice in the year, marking the first day of Spring and Autumn and is when the day and night are in equal balance.
It is at this time of year that summer is gently surrendering and we harvest the gifts this bountiful season brings. Apple trees are weighing heavy with their fruit, Horse Chestnuts fall gifting us the delight of conkers and brambles and hedgerows are filled up with blackberries.
The space around us begins to change its colour. Deep earthy browns, vibrant oranges, deep reds and sunshine yellow burst out from our trees. Autumn truly is a season for nature to gift us with it’s beautiful colour palette before the final surrender to Winter.
A Time to Gather and Harvest
A change in season is the perfect time to check in with ourselves and reflect on where we are on our journeys. You may want to begin by looking back and reflecting upon your experiences so far this year. What did you enjoy and what didn’t you? What knowledge have you gathered from these experiences. Taking time out to be thankful for the positives, and give thanks for the lessons that the negatives have bought us.
Honouring ourselves and the season
Equinox’s can put on a spot light on balance, so it’s a great time to ensure we have harmony in all areas of our lives. Bring your awareness to what you’re pouring your energy into, are all of these things rewarding and bringing joy into your life? If not, why not? Are you remembering to refill your cup regularly and engaging in self care rituals?
Autumn and Fall display a perfect example of shedding and release. Are there things in your life that you are now ready to let go of or holding onto? Perhaps now is the time to shed parts of yourself such as fears and unhelpful habits that no longer serve you.
The beautiful yellow, orange and red tones nature displays for us during this time are colours that correspond to our Solar Plexus, Sacral and Root Chakras, Chakras we can work with to reignite our inner power, our divine and true selves and our creativity.
The Autumn Equinox energy will be around us and in our space for more than just a 24 hour period, so however you choose to spend this time, I strongly encourage you to take a moment to explore and connect with nature. Venture to your local green space or park and witness the true delight that Autumn brings. Give yourself permission to dance a little in the rain, hug or touch a tree, join a local apple harvest or festival or simply sit on your favourite bench, close your eyes and breathe.
